Module 3, Lesson 3: Models & Strategies for Multiplication & Division

Word Problems

Objective

Learn the levels of mathematical strategies and about specific models and strategies for solving multiplication & division word problems.

What You’ll Learn

What models and strategies can be used when solving multiplication & division word problems?

Students move through three levels:

  • Direct Modeling
  • Skip Counting
  • Associative or Distributive Properties of Multiplication

How can you help students move through these three levels using a variety of strategies? Which strategies can you use? Strategies are HOW students solve the problems and use the model. Each student will solve word problems differently.
