Module 2, Lesson 1: What are the Problem Types for Addition & Subtraction?

Word Problems

Objective

Understand how this module is laid out and organized. Get a broad overview of the the 12 different problem types.

What You’ll Learn

In this section, we will solve a lot of word problems!  I have created videos for each addition and subtraction word problem type using a variety of one and two-digit numbers.

Also included are three problems per problem type for you to solve and reflect on your process.  While it may seem tedious to solve all of these word problems, it is beneficial to go through the process and pay attention to HOW you are solving the problems.

The process will change your mindset.  You will apply new mathematical strategies and develop new vocabulary to use with students.

I love how organized this thinking is . . . my students will benefit from thinking about the unknown first! It makes sense!
